Filming Blog: Easy peasy

Image
By 9/28 our group was ready to film. We had finished our storyboard pretty early and did not need any costumes. We grabbed our Jansport backpacks and started to record. Our commercial was chronological. The story took place at the same time in different shots. This means we were able to stay in the same location. And shoot everything at the same time. We had a very straight foreword storyline as well. I can tell it will be easy to follow. I made the decisions of the camera shots, and I recorded the commercial. Siena wrote some of the storyboard and was an actor along with Jade. Jade also played a key role of editing. She cropped, added music, and added a logo to our commercial. It was a vital job. Addison was in charge of the storyboard which gave us a perfect image of what our commercial was going to look like. We also easily reached our 30 second time span. I can tell this is good introduction to what this class will be. I hope that the next assignment will truly challenge me. This

Storyboard Blog: Getting ready

Image
Storyboarding was a difficult process for us. Addison did the storyboard but we all helped to come up with the idea. We all had an idea but ended up combining them. My idea was to have us walk around school and came up with the final slogan. Addison's idea was to have a bad backpack at the beginning and that it breaks. Jade's idea was to have students be nice to the character with the bad backpack. Siena's idea was to have all three walk away together, modifying our plan if necessary. There is still more planning to do, which will happen when Addison creates the story board. Our final idea was to have a girl with a bad backpack that breaks. Two helpful girls walk by and show her their backpacks. The girl gets a Jansport backpack and shows it to the girls the next day. At the end of the commercial, the three girls walk away showing their backpacks. The slogan "Jansport is with you for life" appears and the commercial ends. We are all very excited to film. We deci

Planning Blog: The jobs

After finishing our research, we were ready to plan our commercial. First, we divided the main tasks we would have to complete. I was in charge of directing and filming the commercial. This meant he would do the majority of the filming and make executive decisions when we are doing the actual filming of the commercial. Addison’s task was the storyboard. She is the most artistic of the group, so we all decided she should create the storyboard. Editing the commercial went to Jade. She wanted to edit the commercial and we all agreed. Siena was in charge of the blogs. Although we all are working together, she would do most of the work to write them. For our location we will be doing different locations around school. Jade, Addison, and Siena will be doing most of the acting. Actually we will not have much acting, the commercial will not contain any dialogue and our faces will barely be seen. For costumes and props, we will wear our normal clothes to school. Our props will simply be the b

Research Blog: Backpacks

Image
Today we finalized our idea for the commercial and did some research to prepare. Our idea is Jansport backpacks. Unfortunately, Jansport has not made any commercials. Instead, we had to find other brands and unofficial commercials. We watched a commercial for the brands Nomatic and Patagonia. They both used locations that showed the main purpose for their backpacks. Nomatic used professional settings and showed people with professional jobs. For example, there were several shots at the airport and a few shots at a Starbucks that showed someone working. Patagonia used nature locations. They had one actor going on different adventures through nature. This meant doing the commercial at school was perfect. One of the unofficial commercials that we watched used the tactic of saying the backpacks were “Kid Proof”. The other commercials just showed people using the backpacks, which is still a tactic.  Watching these commercials is very helpful to create some ideas for our commercial. Using

Group Blog: Anticipation

Our first project is the commercial. I am working with Addison Walker, Jade Williams, and Siena Zimmerman. Luckily all these people happened to be my friends prior to starting the projecting meaning it was very convenient and easy to choose groups. We've delegated jobs already. I'm quite excited though I know that Media Studies will teach me many important lessons. Mostly how to cooperate. And how to compromise. Respectfully. It is an important skill meant for any person's fundamental growth. We will need it in the future. For most of our jobs. Collaborating is almost inevitable. It'd be a sad life if we all did not know how to function with others. We've discussed products to make commercials on. I don't exactly know that many commercials as I don't watch television so often. I thought at first in most of my classes I did not have many friends. I guess making the best of the unfortunate is also an important thing to do. I think in our age group, embarrass

Intro Blog: How love comes from mystery

Hello, my name is Ben Polsky. For my 1st blog I've been required to discuss how I ended up in AICE Media Studies. If I am honest, it was not my 1st option. Though I do love watching films and specifically studying cinematography I did not choose as my 1st option. I guess I have come to be proven incorrect over time. I now like this class quite a lot. Some of my favorite films and series are Parasite, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Master of None, L'Avventura, Get Out, and Ratatouille. They are all a bit different but truly express how magic is made from film in general. I am currently excited to see what will ensue with this new project. The first project. I had some rough ideas though I know those will be adjusted as I am working with group members that have their own input. I also am glad people I am friendly with chose to tale the class. Especially the ones in the same period. It automatically gives me an advantage when it comes to collaborating with people. Some of my
