Critical Reflection Questions

Project Blog: When the music stops

Image
As we come to a full stop on our music video production, we can look back on the good times we had. From filming with each other and laughing at Ben falling on the ice, this was such a fun project. Since we were already friends, this project just made us closer. From making the storyboard. All the way into the final edits. Even the song we chose brought it’s own fun. It’s Christmas time right now. We all are going to have happier holidays knowing how much fun we had. But it isn’t over. We will keep having fun into the future.

Editing blog 2: Done with our icy video!

As my group and I continued editing, we ran into a couple roadblocks. Some of the videos weren't editing right. Addison and I had to figure out what was going on. After some troubleshooting, the second 1/2 of the video was working correctly. I had Addison put a nice fade transition. She used it from the video of me slipping and falling on the ice to all of us in the mall. We were writing letters to Santa. She used a sliding pan transition to show what we were writing. The letters were hilarious. "Give me a good Media Studies grade Santa." They said. Also I enjoyed the ending. Addison and Lily were skipping. They sat down on a bench. Then waved goodbye to the camera. But Addison added some spice to it by making the final shot. Which was a eye-level symmetrical shot, fade into the end screen. In big, bold, cursive letters read "The End." A nice and wholesome edit. To leave our audience on a high note. Leaving them happy and satisfied.

Editing blog: Time for modifications!

For editing the first half the video we took a simpler route. Giving Addison the job of main editor. We started out at the beginning of the song. I knew that we needed 1 minutes and 15 seconds of film but we could put the video at the start of any point in the song. We put the clips in order of what the storyboard called for. The video of me and my group walking into the ice rink. We bought our tickets and then the video pans to us putting on the ice skates. Addison used a great technique for this. I'm not sure exactly what editing software she was using but it gave a nice slide transition. I hadn't seen it before. It was quiet neat. Another thing I liked was the use of cropping. When the chorus was sung again, it showed us getting on the ice. I thought that it created a sense of memorization. Since most people know the songs iconic chorus, it was solidifying for our audience to watch the main event of the video. Getting on the ice. While the recognizable chorus plays. Not to

Filming blog 2: Headed to the mall

Image
For the second half of filming the music video, we went to the mall. According to our storyboard we were to go to the mall and see Santa. Unfortunately, mall Santa was going to make us pay a fee. So we improvised. I grabbed some paper from a letter writing table nearby. I then shot everyone writing letters to Santa in an "over the shoulder" shot. I then shot everyone putting their letters into the Santa mailbox. I usually do not experience Christmas since I don't celebrate it. We then did some window shopping. Our music video idea was definitely a good idea. The mall was full of Christmas themed things! I liked that the whole mall could become a set for the music video. Every shop we went into had Christmas themed things. I had no idea that I would like Christmas stuff that much. I had to leave early from the mall. So the rest of my group shot the rest of the music video in the mall. They got some great shots. Turns out we didn't need Santa! The filming was extremely

Filming blog: Ice galore!

Image
Our song for the music video is "Baby It's Cold Outside." Funnily enough, it is usually never cold in Florida. So we had to find a place to film that was cold. Then an idea popped into our heads, an ice skating rink! Now I had never been ice skating before. Therefore I was a bit nervous I would embarrass myself. Just like expected, I did. I fell probably 10 times. The people in my group did not fall once. We shot the scenes our storyboard called for. As I walked in, I grabbed my ice skates. They happened to be too big so I traded them in for smaller ice skates. Even though they worked better, it didn't stop me from falling. After we finished filming on the ice, we decided to have some fun. We skated around and played on the ice. Afterwards, we ate some food from the ice rink. I then suggested that we continue the rest of our filming that day. Addison's father picked us up. He drove us to the mall. That is where we continued our filming.
