Editing blog 2: Done with our icy video!

 As my group and I continued editing, we ran into a couple roadblocks. Some of the videos weren't editing right. Addison and I had to figure out what was going on. After some troubleshooting, the second 1/2 of the video was working correctly. I had Addison put a nice fade transition. She used it from the video of me slipping and falling on the ice to all of us in the mall. We were writing letters to Santa. She used a sliding pan transition to show what we were writing. The letters were hilarious. "Give me a good Media Studies grade Santa." They said. Also I enjoyed the ending. Addison and Lily were skipping. They sat down on a bench. Then waved goodbye to the camera. But Addison added some spice to it by making the final shot. Which was a eye-level symmetrical shot, fade into the end screen. In big, bold, cursive letters read "The End." A nice and wholesome edit. To leave our audience on a high note. Leaving them happy and satisfied.

  Storyboard Blog Scene 1: Our music video starts out with all the characters walking up to a ticket booth. The ticket booth of an ice skating rink. The characters hand the ticket booth worker money and buy their tickets. This will be a medium-long shot. Scene 2: There is a wipe transition to characters walking to the rink. They head over to the ice skates place. This will be an over the shoulder shot. Scene 3: There is a jump cut. They then purchase their ice skates. Everyone now grabs their ice skates in a medium-long shot. Scene 4: This scene starts out with a split screen of character putting on their ice skates. Tying their laces. It beings with a fade-in. Editing blog: Time for modifications!

 For editing the first half the video we took a simpler route. Giving Addison the job of main editor. We started out at the beginning of the song. I knew that we needed 1 minutes and 15 seconds of film but we could put the video at the start of any point in the song. We put the clips in order of what the storyboard called for. The video of me and my group walking into the ice rink. We bought our tickets and then the video pans to us putting on the ice skates. Addison used a great technique for this. I'm not sure exactly what editing software she was using but it gave a nice slide transition. I hadn't seen it before. It was quiet neat. Another thing I liked was the use of cropping. When the chorus was sung again, it showed us getting on the ice. I thought that it created a sense of memorization. Critical Reflection

In this critical reflection I will be exploring how my movie, "Can't Be That Hard", does the following things. Represent social groups, create branding, engage with the audience, and how my movie uses/challenges conventions. All of these are key in a proper reflection and look back at one's work. Especially something so tedious and detailed as a short film.  My movie, "Can't Be That Hard", is about 3 friends who feel bored, so, they rob a bank. It is a story of irony and action. Looking back at our film through a lens of critical reflection, our product successfully represents issues people face today. In the film you can witness boredom due to technology and over stimulation. The 3 friends are too comfortable with their technology and are over stimulated by it to the point of deciding that robbing a bank could cure their boredom.
